Hair Extensions Tips

When you increase the length of your hair by artificial means, you are using hair extensions. If you use hair extensions intelligently, you can get long, flowing tresses that match the color of your original hair. Hair extensions provide immediate volume for limp hair or quick relief when your haircut goes wrong. Extensions generally last for maximum of 3 months.

Taking care of hair extensions is slightly different from taking care of natural hair. You should follow the tips mentioned below:

* With a soft bristle brush, brush your hair from lower end and slowly go upward.

* While sleeping, tie up your hair lightly.

* Avoid coloring your hair extensions at home.

* Running fingers through the braid extensions will prevent tangling.

* Avoid spraying the extensions with any silicone based products like conditioners, since they cause slippage of braids.

The maximum length of extensions should be about 26″-30″. If you exceed this length, your scalp will be under extra weight, causing uneven pressure and damage to your hair. For women with average height, the best hair extensions do not exceed 22″.

The cost of extensions starts from a few hundred dollars to thousands of dollars. Though you can shop around, the premium products are expensive. But they are highly durable and make you look great.

But do not apply hair extensions below the base of your scalp (close to middle of your ears). This means the hair from this point onwards is covered by extensions.

If you experience any pain while getting extensions, stop. The extensions artist should ensure the tracks are firm but comfortable. You should experience tension equally on your head and there should be no pulling or hurting. Ignore when people tell you that the extensions should be tight so that they are secure. You may feel heaviness on your head for a couple of days but it will disappear after that.
